Chewy Brownies

2 C. sugar
1 1/2 C. flour
1/3 C. baking cocoa
1 1/2 tea. salt
1 tea. baking powder
1 C. canola oil
4 eggs
2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
1 tea. vanilla extract or flavoring
1 C. chopped nuts (optional)
Confectioners’ sugar (optional)

In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour, cocoa, salt and baking powder.

Combine oil, eggs, corn syrup and vanilla extract or flavoring. Add to dry ingredients. Fold in nuts if desired. Spread in a prepared 13 x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 to 27 min. or until a wooden pick inserted near the center comes out clean.

Dust with powderedsugar while warm if desired.

Yields about 3 dozen.
