Cranberry Buttons

2 C. flour
1 1/2 C. brown sugar, packed
1 1/2 C. freshly-ground cranberries
1 C. vegetable shortening
3 C. quick-cooking oats
1/2 tea. salt
1/2 tea. ground nutmeg
1/2 tea. ground ginger
1 tea. baking soda

In a lrg. mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, ginger, nutmeg, salt and oats. Cut in vegetable shortening with a pastry blender or table knives, until particles are very fine. Add cranberries and brown sugar. Mix until well blended. Cover and chill 1 hr..

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease two cookie sheets.

Roll out dough to 1/4 in. thickness and cut into 3-in. rounds. Bake for 12 to 15 min. or until lightly browned. Cool.
